Take a Look at These Unmissable North East Events

Although it might seem like this year is flying by, we’ve still got four months left before we swiftly move on to 2022. So, if you want to make the most of the rest of this year, we’ve got the perfect autumn/winter events to help you plan ahead before tickets sell out!

We’ve created a list of gatherings happening right here in the North East. From those that are slightly more relaxed to others that are a lot more fast-paced, there will definitely be an event you’ll want to book! Just because we’re saying goodbye to the summer months, it doesn’t mean we can’t go out and have a great time with our mates.


Wolsingham Agricultural Show

When & Where? September 4 to September 5 at Wolsingham Showground.

Wolsingham’s annual show takes place this weekend and attracts thousands of visitors every year. It hosts a selection of local food producers and crafters, as well as live cookery demonstrations. Don’t forget to stick around for the animals, too, with Sheep Dog Trials, Show Jumping and you can even take a look at some giant tortoises. In fact, the show has now been running for 258 years!

Tynemouth Food Festival

When & Where? September 25 to September 26 at Tynemouth Priory and Castle.

A great event to, quite literally, sink your teeth into, Tynemouth Food Festival has all kinds of delicious treats that you can enjoy while soaking up the town’s magnificent coastal views. There’s also live music which makes for a great atmosphere. You could even visit the beach for a blissful autumn stroll afterward. Although it might be a bit chilly to go for a dip in the sea!

Bishop Auckland Food Festival

When & Where? October 2 to October 3 at Bishop Auckland Market Place and North Bondgate.

Usually scheduled for the spring, Bishop Auckland Food Festival will instead adopt a cosy, autumnal vibe for this year only. There’s loads planned for it, with an incredible line-up of celebrity chefs that includes the well-known Masterchef star, John Torode. Stalls will be run by street food and artisan vendors from across Yorkshire, the North East and Cumbria and potentially those from other parts of the country, too.

Newcastle Oktoberfest

When & Where? October 15 to October 23 (two weekends) at Times Square.

Described by organisers as “The Biggest Bavarian Party in the North,” Oktoberfest is back and may be right up your street if you’re a beer fan, with plenty of steins to go round. The event’s large marquee tent, which has a capacity of 1200 people, will also host Bavarian party bands to dance and sing along to. It’s the ideal place if you’re already missing the atmosphere of summer festivals!

Durham Lumiere Festival

When & Where? November 18 to November 21 at multiple locations across the city.

Durham’s Lumiere festival will mark the perfect start to the festive season. Following the virtual exhibition in 2020, organisers have been busy putting together brand new displays that will illuminate the city and its iconic landmarks in just under 3 months’ time. Now in its 12th year, the festival attracts visitors from all over the North East, with a line-up of local, national and international artists ready to impress.
